Sustainability

Over recent years, the importance of sustainability has increasingly grown in all industries, across the globe, with the UK reducing its emissions by almost half since 1990, with plans to be Net Zero by 2050.

To us, sustainability means extending the life of the triple bottom line: planet, people and profits, for future generations. This means, that we need to protect the environment around us, whilst also protecting the community around us, so that the generations after us, can enjoy what we have created.

Sustainability requires you to rethink the ways you currently do business, section by section. At Castles UK we are proud of the progress we have made to understand and ensure our environments future, however it is our responsibility  to continue this progression.

Our vision for the coming years is:

“Castles UK will become carbon net zero by 2050, whilst continuing to supply high quality, long-lasting furniture to the community.”

Sustainability Timeline

What we are currently doing?

1. Furniture that is made to last

All of our furniture is made to last at least 15 years, with some of our products being in establishments since 2001. By using timeless designs, our furniture can pass from generation to generation, without needing replacing. On top of this, we offer a 10-year warranty to further ensure our confidence in our work.

2. Materials

Our primary material used is MDF. It is a material that is strong and made to last. As stated by The ECC Sustainability Standards, MDF is both sustainability and environmental friendly, due to mainly being made from wood fibres. Our supplier of MDF has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

3. Close Supplier Relationship

Over the years, we have been able to build strong relationships with our suppliers. It enables us to ensure that the suppliers we work with have the same values and high standards as ourselves. This includes our  supplier in Thailand.

4. Shared Deliveries

Wherever possible, we like to share the delivery loads between multiple orders. Not only is this better for the environment, as it reduces the amount of CO2 that is released and increases the efficiency of our vans, but it is also beneficial for our customers, as it helps to keep the delivery cost as low as possible.

CEO Statement

“At Castles UK, we understand the importance of sustainability, and that is why we want to ensure we are doing our part. Our main goal is to be Carbon Net Zero by 2050, at the latest. We have our current strategy for how we want to reach our goal, but it is likely this will change along the way. It is important we work hard, not only as a team, but as an industry, to allow our customers to have less pressure when choosing a sustainable manufacturer, because they should be able to trust that all manufacturers are working towards the same goal of a sustainable future.”
